SUBANG JAYA: Buddhists thronged the Wesak mobile temple set up in Putra Heights for Wesak Day celebrations.
The celebration was a collaboration effort by Putra Heights Buddhist Society and Upakara Kalyana Mitta Buddhist Association (UKMBA) to allow residents to celebrate the festival in their neighbourhood.
The celebration started with flower and candle light offerings from the residents.
These items were sold at RM10 each to help pay for the celebration.
Then there was a puja and blessings by monks, followed by a Buddha-bathing ceremony. The devotees were treated to free lunch afterwards.
Sis.Sumangala of Aloka Foundation gave talks on the meaning of Wesak Day.
The Tzu Chi Foundation also distributed religious books in exchange for donations.
Jonathan Kan, a devotee, said the mobile temple was a great idea as it made it convenient for his family to pay respects to the Buddha.
Visitors were given free glucose and cholesterol tests.
There were several booths selling drinks, food and other items.
A musical performance by Messenger of Dhamma (MOD) was presented towards the end of the celebration.
The celebrations ended with blessings from the monks.
President of the Joint Organisation for Putra Heights Inaugural Wesak Day Celebration Chua Teck Seong was delighted with the overwhelming response from the residents.
