Venerable Rakkhita is an enterprising, magnetic and creative meditation teacher from UK. He has practiced and studied meditation for most of his life. He has been practicing vipassana (Awareness and Wisdom) meditation for about 28 years, three of which he was ordained as a Buddhist Monk in the Thai Vipassana tradition with Ven Ajahn Tong and two years as a Samanera. Teachers have included Luang Poh Banyat, Ven Ajahn Tong, Sayadaw U Pandita, , Ven Sujiva, Bhante Punnaji, Ven Dr Sunanda.
Ven Rakkhita has shared creative life skills in many areas of the work field world including arts, music, theatre in education, therapies and performance mainly in UK. His teachings invite exploration of the convergence of love and wisdom. His teaching style emphasizes a relaxed, caring and attentive attitude combined with joyful interest and Zen humour.
Ven Rakkhita shares the Buddha's teachings on human development and liberation of mind which emphasizes that each moment of your life is a practice opportunity.
He enjoys sharing the Buddha's teachings with all people.
Ven Rakkhita's meditation teaching aims to inspire the faith, determination and skill necessary to realize the deepest human freedom.
' I have struggled myself with confusion over where life is going, whether I will ever meet the ‘right’ person, would I ever do what I was ‘destined’ to do – and what was that anyway? Was I doing enough? Too much? '
In 1983 he encountered the art of happiness, awareness and letting go.
Art and happiness: it is about re-learning to take pleasure in the small things.
When one is attuned to beautiful qualities of heart, and isn’t driven by the need to control, judge or manipulate others.
' I came to meditation as a result of the stress and suffering I was experiencing in my life. It was a time when I was becoming curious about two questions: ‘Why am I so miserable?’ and ‘What is freedom?’
' It has transformed my whole sense of what it means to be alive, and what it feels like to be in relationship with others. There is less fear and confusion, and more space for love and openness. This is a cause for much gratitude.'
He teaches to help individuals realize their full potential for clarity, balance, kindness and wisdom.
Ven Rakkhita's teachings are based on both ancient and modern ways of mind training especially, such as daily life practice, "metta" unconditional love, concentration, awareness and wisdom.
He has explored developing and producing a Meditation Map to help tracking attention during Insight Meditation. 'I feel the Map work compliments traditional Vipassana teaching and aids gaining a sense of useful theory in practice'. His teaching style aims to reveal how all aspects of our lives can help us come to a clear and direct understanding of the Truth.
Ven Rakkhita offers us a collection of techniques to be used both in formal, intensive meditation and in any situation during our busy and complicated daily lives. Rakkhita's manner is friendly, open, and kind, suitable for the modern seeker of truth.

Meditation our universal way of life

Meditation has many benefits and anyone who has tried even a single meditation technique will swear by it. Everybody meditates to bring peace and serenity into their lives, to be one with their inner selves, to heal and to improve their mental and physical health. Thus, no matter what the reason for practicing it, meditation is universal.
Now, although meditation is universal, meditation techniques may differ from one culture to another. Often different meditation techniques are suited to different personality types. Some techniques are expansive and allow for the free flow of thoughts and their observation whereas some types are concentrative that involve bringing focus into one's thoughts.

Historic showcase of Mercedes-Benz classics
It was to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the invention of the automobile.
Mercedes-Benz and classic car enthusiasts feasted their eyes on 125 groomed cars, as the proud owners sprang feverishly into action to buff away dust specks and carry out last -minute inspections to ensure that their years of painstaking restoration met the discerning standards of the panel of judges.
Historic event: Some of the 125 vintage and classic Mercedes-Benz cars on display at the grounds of the Palace of the Golden Horses. On show were cars from a bygone era including a 1936 Mercedes-Benz 500K Roadster estimated to be worth RM24mil, a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gull Wing worth about RM5mil and a 1938 Mercedes-Benz 320B all vying for the top prize in the vintage (pre-1960) category.
Two other categories were the classics (1961-1975) and modern classics (1976-1989) models.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia president and CEO Roland S. Folger said the concours also provided visitors a lesson in automotive history.
“When Carl Benz registered his Benz Patent-Motorwagen on Jan 29, 1886, nobody could have imagined the triumphant march the modern car would embark upon over the next 125 years.
“One hundred and twenty five years after inventing the automobile, we are continuing to re-invent the car. We need to meet the challenges of the future for eco-friendly cars which are efficient, safe and boast the best that technology can offer.
Excellent condition: The winners of the three categories with Folger (second from left) and their iconic Mercedes-Benz cars. “Be it combustion engines, hybrids or fully electric vehicles, the inventor of the automobile is still ahead of the game,” he said.
“The showcase was a proud reflection of Mercedes-Benz’s history, longevity, build quality, leading edge technology and design together with the painstaking efforts of the owners to maintain the rare collectibles in pristine, classic condition.”
The panel of judges including Frank Reichert, sales and marketing head of the Mercedes-Benz’s Classic Car Centre in Stuttgart, Germany appraised the cars on preparation, condition, correctness, cleanliness and originality in the following categories namely engine and engine compartment, exterior, interior, trunk/booth and undercarriage/suspension wheels.
Owners of the top car in each of the three categories won an all-expense-paid vacation for two to the renowned Mercedes-Benz Museum and Classic Car Centre in Stuttgart.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia will roll out a host of other activities to continue the anniversary celebrations in the coming months including dealer openhouses, a Facebook contest which will run until June 30 and CRM dining events for loyal customers.
The concours was jointly organised by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Historic Motoring Ventures Sdn Bhd.
